P4: Planning

In unit 2, I developed skills to create pre-production documents and learned the importance of pre-production to speed up both production and post-poduction. Planning a media product makes creating it alot simpler as i only have to follow the ideas i made.

As a group we are going to create a Christmas themes radio show. The purpose of the show is to entertain a wide audience with festive music and segments. The show would air mid-day as it is suitable for ages and will achieve the most active listeners. The show will contain Christmas talk from the hosts, Yorkshire Wildlife Park advert, music and a phone-in segment. We will create our own Jingles which will include noises like bells and cheerful music. Although I will not spend any money to complete this radio, I could use my knowledge from Unit 1 and crowd fund by marketing my show and gaining social proof for this show. Also, I could gain sponsorship from the Yorkshire Wildlife Park for the advertisement, which could fund the money for the equipment and time for the show.

I will need a microphone to record the talking and other sounds and have a computer to record and save the files on. I will Adobe Audition when recording and will edit the show on Premier Pro.

In this show we will have all roles split equally, for example everyone will complete an equal amount of pre-production documents and everybody will record and edit their own sections. Alice will create the mindmap and advert script, I will create the production schedule, location recce and asset log and Isaac will complete the script, jingle and risk assessment. This will give us plenty of time to create our pre-production amongst us and making corrections and improvements to ensure the production of our radio show goes without any problems.

 Initial planning:

Mind map

Jingle

We wanted a sound effect that excited both kids and adults. While we were planning we decided it would be a great idea to involve the voices of children and adults, which also portrays the suitability of our show from the very beginning.

We will include sound effects such as children laughing, sleigh bells and voices from people of different ages which will be edited together on Premier Pro.

Weekly production schedule

The advert is going to be for the new Pangea experience at the Yorkshire Wildlife Park, which is local to Doncaster. We will include sound effects such as dinosaurs and will have fun music to entice people. We will need to record our scripted segments however the sound effects are going to be gathered from a subscription service (epidemicsound.com). The scripted segment will include information about the Yorkshire Wildlife Park and how suitable it is for an entire family. Below is the script for the advert segment:
